The Renovated Sports Complex at MU – Varna Was Opened with a Friendly Volleyball Match

The renovated sports complex of Medical University – Varna was opened officially on 18th October. The Varna District Governor Mr. Stoyan Pasev, the Mayor of the city Mr. Ivan Portnih and the Rector of MU – Varna Prof. Dr. Krasimir Ivanov cut the ribbon on the renovated sports facilities, wishing all athletes great future success.

The complex was opened in 1984, and this has been the first major renovation of the facilities. Here students carry out their daily training in volleyball, basketball and tennis. In the smaller hall lecturers teach future medics aerobics, general physical preparation, yoga, folk dances and boxing.

Traditionally, the basketball and volleyball competitions, part of the programmes of the municipal tournaments for the 8th December Cup and the Varna Universiade, are held in this hall. And this year MV – Varna once again became the complex winner at the Varna Universiade.

Among the rest of the official guests at the event were Dr. Yanko Stanev – Deputy Chairman of the Varna Municipal Council, the Director of the Sports Directorate at the Municipality of Varna – Mr. Kristian Dimitrov, Mr. Dancho Iliev – Chief Expert at the Sport Directorate, the Chairman of the Bulgarian Red Cross – Mr. Iliya Raev, Captain 1st rank Emil Yordanov – Deputy Commander at Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy, as well as the heads of the sports departments at the Varna universities. Congratulatory address was received from the Commander at Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy – Flotilla Admiral Prof. Boyan Mednikarov.

The academic management of the University and the guests rewarded with well-deserved applause the student dance group “Diana” after their brilliant performance of the “Thracian dance”.

The opening of the complex continued with a friendly volleyball match between the teams of MU – Varna and Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy, which ended in favour of the medics.
